How To Fix Water Damage Now

If your home has flooded, you will need to do water clean up and fix the water damage.  The type of clean will depend on what type of flooding has occurred.  If a simple water pipe broke that has clean water, your water damage and mold problems will not be as bad as it would be if it were a sewer line or a storm that caused the flooding.

Clean water damage and mold will not be as much of a problem.  You simply need to fix the water damage by drying out your home completely and then have it checked for mold.  You can dry out your home by opening all doors and windows.  You will then take all of your items out of the home.  You may want to remove the carpeting and have new carpet installed.  This way you will not get mold in your floorboards.  Allow fans to blow throughout the house to help dry it out.

If your water clean up is extensive, you may want to hire a professional to come in and assess the damage to the foundation and structure of the home.  If the foundation is damaged, you could have more problems down the road.  You need to have this taken care of first before you can do any water damage and mold clean up.

If the water damage is from sewage or a storm, then you will have to know how to fix the water damage or have professionals do the cleaning.  There are more issues with mold with dirty water than there would be with clean water.  Clean water will support mold if it is not dried out quickly enough.  Dirty water will grow mold much quicker.

Water damage and mold go hand in hand.  Mold needs moisture to grow.  To fix water damage and prevent mold dry quickly and heat area to 115 degrees for 24 hours .  Some molds are deadly to people and pets.  This is why water clean up needs to happen as soon as it is safe to do so.  This way you will not give mold time to grow. Once you have done the clean up, you can call your local health board to come out and inspect your home for mold.  This service is free in most all communities.
