Many people have experienced flooding in their homes at one time or another. Sometimes Mother Nature causes the flooding and other times it is man made flooding that can soak a house and leave water damaged floors in the wake . The water clean up from flooding will change depending on where the water came from. This because flooding caused from different sources come with issues that need to be addressed.
If water cleanup and water damaged floor are from a flood due to a rain storm, sewage or a river or creek overflowing its banks, then you will need to do some extensive cleaning. This water is called black water because it is the unhealthiest of all the flood types and can contaminate you floors and walls. You will want to have your home inspected for black mold before you move back into it if you have had a black water flood. Your family can get seriously ill if they reside in a home that has black mold growing on water-damaged floors.
The floor cleaning will take a bit more time with the black water than it would with the second of the unhealthy types of flooding. This flooding consists of water that is dirty but that is not considered black water. Toilet, bath or dishwater would be considered in this group of contaminated water. This water will require some sanitation, but is not as unhealthy as black water. The flood cleaning will not take long and your family will not have to evacuate the house to do it in normal circumstances. This will depend on the extent of the flood.
Water damaged floor can render a house inhabitable for many months. Whether you have carpeting or hard wood floor you are likely to have structural issues. If you have water damaged floors there a a few things you must be certain to do. Be sure to remove any wood or carpeting that can hold any irritants. Replace all flooring that can be either structural weak or breed mold. If you are not careful, you could be risking your family’s health.
